Beyond the River: A Memoir of Truth

The Kentucky River once flowed like a lifeline through the heart of our days, its gentle currents whispering promises of forever. With Layla Grey, my gorgeous fiancée, by my side and my son’s laughter filling our fifth wheel RV, it seemed we had crafted our own slice of paradise. But paradise, as I soon learned, is a fragile thing. One fateful day, the tranquility shattered. A ballad of anger erupted, and before I could fathom the depth of her resolve, Layla wielded the law like a weapon, forcing me out of our home and into the unforgiving embrace of hopelessness. The weeks that followed, I fought for my place in my son’s life since I was no longer welcomed in hers. My heart heavy with the weight of our fractured dreams, I continued to move forward, never giving up.
This memoir is the chronicle of my legal battles, all the demons that I overcame, and my arduous journey to rebuild my life from the ground up. The story Layla spun about that day at the river was a tapestry of lies, yet the unwavering truth became my beacon. The years passed by, as our final court battle loomed, Layla’s deceit takes a darker turn, using our son as a pawn in her relentless attempts to continue the lie that divided our home. This is the tale of a father fighting for his son, his truth, and his redemption against all odds.
"Beyond the River" is based on a true story
"Beyond the River" is a based on a true story during my time living at a small RV park campground right next to the Kentucky River north of Frankfort, Kentucky. The locations in the memoir are real places; but most of the names mentioned are fictional only to protect the identities of the real individuals who helped inspire the story. Not everyone will be cast in a positive light as the truth is revealed within its pages. Domestic violence is a real thing. False claims of DV should not be taken lightly as there are many who secretly endure it out of dread. All too often that "the boy who cried wolf" story becomes the main theme for most court cases across the nation. The whole ordeal was an experience that I never wish on any father fighting to stay in their child's life. When I think about my life I had at the river, I reflect on how much my faith grew beyond it.
Who was Layla Grey?

Layla Grey is a fictious name given to a real person who inspired the events that takes place in "Beyond the River." She was a woman who lived in Frankfort that I met in February 2018 when I left my hometown of Lebanon, Kentucky. She is described having long, blonde hair that flowed in the wind gracefully as she walked. Her body was a temple of my truest desires with slim figure with humble curves that any dress would hold tightly. Her sapphire eyes glistened in the light whenever she smiled in such a way that would send me back to our early days before the trials of our life. I left my old life behind and was captivated by her beauty. Love is as fragile as the lips that spoke poison upon my name. Our raw and unrelenting compassion for each other quickly became the fuel for the war between our places in our son's life.
Expecting a 2026 Release
I haven't published a book in over ten years but I remember how long the process took. The revisions and the editing process can often take longer than the actual writing. I do plan to release this memoir within the next two years. I'm shooting for a mid-2026 release (which is a year away) but due to how close this book is to my personal life between 2018-2025 I expect some legal preparations. This book won't be about calling anyone out but my testimony of the life I found beyond the river.
